Early Years Curriculum

Welcome to Ellington Primary School Foundation Stage. We are delighted that your child will be joining our school and look forward to working with you throughout Foundation Stage to help your child have a happy, secure and purposeful start to their lifelong journey of learning. We are always excited to meet our new children and to see each and every one of them grow and shine, as they discover and explore the world around them.

Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the encouragement that enables them to fulfil their potential. At Ellington Primary School, we believe in education without compromise. Children are born ready, able, and eager to learn and will actively reach out to interact with other people and the world around them. The development of each unique child depends on them having opportunities to form positive relationships, in enabling and safe environments. We aim to provide a balanced, challenging and most of all enjoyable experience for each individual child.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the statutory standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. An updated EYFS came into effect on 3rd April 2017. You can read the latest EYFS handbook and frameworks by clicking on the links below.
EYFS Profile

From following the Early Years Foundation Stage, all early years providers must complete an EYFS Profile for each child in the final term of the year in which they turn 5. For most children this is the end of reception in primary school (the end of Foundation Stage). The main purpose is to provide an accurate assessment of individual children at the end of the EYFS. The profile describes eah child's attainment against 17 early learning goals.

In the future, a Baseline Assessment is going to be carried out in the first six weeks of your child entering Reception. It is intended that this will be introduced in Autumn 2020.

What to expect, when?

It is widely recognised that parents play a vital role in supporting their children's learning and development. Parents need to know what to expect in relation to their child's development through the different age bands of the EYFS.

'What to expect, when?' is a simple guide which takes parents through the expectations of each age band in the EYFS and how they can support their child's learning and development.
We use School360 to record your child's learning journey and will share this with you in school and with a printed copy at the end of their time in Foundation Stage.

At Ellington Primary School we aim to work in partnership with you as parents, carers, and families, promoting the very best relationship to support learning. We look forward to meeting you and your child and hope this page has provided you with the information you need to help start their learning journey.
